Opening: Ask: What should faithful people do when history appears to contradict a promise they trust?

Say:

Second Samuel 7 promises David's house, offspring, kingdom, and throne, while also allowing for discipline of a sinful son.
Psalm 89 celebrates the promise and then openly laments the collapse of the kings rule.
The biblical tradition does not solve tension by pretending the collapse never happened.
Luke and Acts identify Jesus, risen and exalted, with the enduring Davidic hope.
